Start With “Act As”

Desi typed “write me a caption” and got back the driest caption ever written. Simone shows her the one step almost everybody skips: telling your AI who to act as first — so you get a better answer the first time.

  • Why a plain question gets a plain, guessing answer
  • The four little words that change everything: “Act as a…”
  • Role first, then the details — what you want, who it's for, how long, what tone

Feed It the Facts

Desi did her Episode 1 homework — she named the chair — and the answer got better… but it still didn't know her life. Simone teaches step two: after the role, feed your AI the facts (who it's for, your limits, what you like), so it stops guessing generic and starts answering you.

  • Why your AI keeps guessing: it can only read your prompt, not your mind
  • The meal-planner makeover: same prompt, plus two facts, totally different dinner
  • The rule: two or three facts that change the answer — and only share what the job needs

📚 Ep 2 homework: take your “Act as” prompt from Episode 1 and add just two facts to it. Run it again and watch the answer land closer to your real life.

Say How You Want It Back

Desi's meal-planner answer was finally right… and it still came back like a cookbook wrote her a letter. Simone teaches step three: after the role and the facts, say how you want the answer back — how long, what shape, in what kind of words — so it lands like a note on your fridge, not a textbook.

  • If you don't name the shape, your AI guesses — long, fancy, generic
  • Your shape choices: a short list, numbered steps, short paragraphs, a table
  • The fridge-note rule: plain words, like a person, not a textbook

📚 Ep 3 homework: take the prompt you've been building and add one line at the end that says how you want the answer back. The homework tabs below have all three episodes' assignments in one place.

THE VOICES

Meet your hosts

Simone Bell in the studio — black blazer, white top, gold bamboo hoops THE TEACHER

Simone Bell

Confident, plain-spoken, with a little sass. Simone breaks every prompt down into steps anybody can follow — no tech talk, no talking down. If there's a chair to name, she'll name it.

Desi Brooks in the studio — cropped denim jacket, copper-auburn waves THE TESTER

Desiree “Desi” Brooks

Smart, funny, and brand new to prompts — just like you. Desi asks the questions you're thinking, tries every trick out loud, and reacts honestly when it works (and when it doesn't).

INTERACTIVE TOY

Name that chair 🪑

This is the whole Episode 1 lesson, as a toy. Pick who your AI should act as, say what you need, and watch your prompt build itself. Then steal it — go paste it into your AI and try it for real.

FROM THE EPISODES

Your homework 📚

Every episode ends with one small assignment, and they build on each other — same prompt, one step stronger every time. Pick your episode:

1

Pick your regular

Take one thing you ask your AI all the time — a caption, an email, a plan, anything.

2

Name the chair

Before you ask, start with “Act as a…” and name who it should be — a coach, a tutor, a caption writer.

3

Talk back

First answer not it? Adjust the chair. New role, sharper details. You are allowed to talk back to it.

1

Grab your Ep 1 prompt

The one where you named the chair — “Act as a…” That's your starting point; don't write a new one.

2

Add two facts

Just two facts that change the answer: who it's for, a limit (time, money, size), or something you love or can't stand.

3

Run it again

Same prompt, plus your facts. See how much closer the answer lands to your real life — and only share what the job needs.

1

Use your running prompt

Your “Act as” prompt with your two facts from Episode 2 — it's got the role and the facts. One step left.

2

Add one line at the end

Say how you want the answer back: “Give it to me as a short list, in plain words, like a note on my fridge.” Shape + words, your pick.

3

Read it out loud

Does it read easy, like a fridge note? If not, don't start over — talk back: “Shorter. Plainer. As a list.”

1

Pick an almost-right answer

One old answer you didn’t love. Don’t retype the prompt — the answer itself is your starting point.

2

Write one talk-back sentence

Keep what worked, name ONE change: “Keep the list, just swap the cilantro dinner for something else.”

3

Close the door

Add “Nothing else changes.” Send just that sentence — little turns, not yanking the wheel.

What is The Prompt Breakdown?

A podcast that teaches you how to write prompts — the instructions you give an AI — in plain, simple language. Every episode breaks one prompt skill down so you can use it the same day.

Who is it for?

Beginners 40 and over who already use AI but feel like their answers come back weak, dry, or just… off. If you type a question and get back the cleaning-supplies answer, this show is yours.

What do I need to follow along?

Just whatever AI you already chat with and something you ask it all the time. Simone teaches, Desi tests it out loud — you try it right along with her.

Where do new episodes land?

Right here. Episodes 1, 2 and 3 are up top — watch the videos or just listen. Episode 4 is on the way, and its homework is already waiting: every episode now has interactive homework on the homework wall, where you build it and stick it up as a sticky note.
